salam semua. I went for a
course on tawheed recently and one of the topics coeverd was sihir,
which I think will benefit us all if I wrote something about it, insya
Allah. maaf kalau bahasa rojak digunakan.
So, what is sihir? sihir = seeking help from the Jinn. It is the nature of jinns to crave attention and adoration from humans because Allah preferred us above them due to the knowledge he taught Nabi Adam a.s. The culmination of their jealousy is when Iblis la'natullah refused to prostrate before Adam when Allah commanded him to do so. let's pause here for a brief second and just clarify some misconceptions about Iblis. Our aqeedah does not permit belief in fallen angels. this concept of Iblis being an angel who was then thrown out of heaven i.e. fallen, is a Christian concept. they call him lucifer. In Islam, the angels are beings without desire or choice to do anything, so it is impossible for them to have disobeyed Allah. so all the stories about iblis being a 'malaikat muqarrabeen' (amongst the closest angels to Allah) and that he had made dua' for the other angels but not for himself are all false. Iblis is a Jinn as Allah mentiones in surah al-kahf verse 50:
"And (remember) when We said to the angels;"Prostrate yourselves unto Adam." So they prostrated themselves except Iblîs (Satan). He was one of the jinn; he disobeyed the Command of his Lord."
So why then is iblis addressed together with the angels? the reason is he was a pious jinn who was taken up to be in the company of the angels due to his rightouesness but his arrogance resulted in Allah removing him from jannah and consigning him to the Fire in the Hereafter eternally. that is why arrogance is very dangerous as it is one of the most hateful sifat in the sight of Allah.
So that's why Iblis and his offspring are forever jealous of humans, seeking attention from us in all ways possible. and it is the magician who plays this role best, the role of the jinn pleaser. In order for the jinn to work for the ahli sihir, it must be pleased. and so the dukun worships the jinn in return for favours from it. Don't let anyone fool you for even a second that the dukun controls the jinn. Nonsense! If anything at all, it is the Jinn who is controlling the dukun. And because he is so happy a stupid human being is worshipping him by doing all the ridiculous and disgusting acts the jinns tells him to do, the jinn pun says, " okla, i'll do some favours for him since he's giving me all the attention I want. muahaha."
before I move on, let me just clarify that not all jinns are bad. there are plenty of good jinns around us. See surah al-jinn for further info. but it is the bad ones that cause problems for us. either on their own accord, or via dukuns.
the jinns are very unlike us. They can fly at the speed of light or maybe even faster(they used to curi dengar the decree of things when the angels were talking about it in the heavens - see surah al-jinn), can dive to the depths of the ocean, have supernatural strength, can walk through walls, take different forms, change the forms of objects etc. Their abilities are mentioned or implied in different parts of the Quran and the sunnah, especially in the story of Sulaiman and the Queen of Sheba, Bilqis(surah as-sad, surah an-naml dan lain2).
the story of nabi Sulaiman a.s. also tells us that nobody will ever be able to control Jinns after him because he berdoa for a kingdom that nobody else shall attain after him and that includes the control of jinns:
He said: "My Lord! Forgive me, and bestow upon me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me: Verily, You are the Bestower." surah Sad verse 35
what are the types of magic out there? here are some of them:
- summon jinns to attack or even kill other people, or take over their jasad.
- blow on knots with incantations ( see surah al-falaq). some use vodoo. banyak jugakla mazhab2 sihir ni sebenarnye.
- summon jinns to putuskan hubungan perkahwinan... typically the spouse will say, " every time i look at your face, my blood boils with anger and i don't even know why! "
- magic used to fight magic
- fortune telling, sooth saying... they steal some info from the heavens and add 99 lies to it. they then tell it to the magician who tells us.
- multiple unexplained miscarriages... (janganlah terus fikir you've been afflicted by magic if you've suffered a miscarriage. always seek a physical/medical cause first. miscarriage is quite common in the first trimester of pregnancy(1 in four women). most of them are NOT due to jinns, believe me!)
- making someone's face look ugly although they themselves can't see it.
and macam2 lagi.
most of the time, people go to dukuns out of jealousy. the practitioner is condemned to jahannam kalau tak bertaubat sebelum mati. and the person who seeks the help of the dukun has also committed shirik. and people! listen to me please! shirik is the gravest of all sins! it erases all good deeds that we have done. so pleaaasssseeee, stay away from all forms of shirik.
fighting magic can be done in 2 ways:
1) the first way is haraam and that is using magic to fight magic. it's like asking a big yakuza to fight a smaller yakuza and your life will be even more miserable.
2) by using the quran and seeking help from somebody who genuinely knows how to berubat using the Quran.
CAUTION!!! beware of maulanas, or pak lebais, or tok imams with lovely jubahs and serbans who ask you for your mother's name when you go and see them. if such is the request from the 'healer', maka ketahuilah anda sedang memandang dukun, not a proper healer. i mean seriously, even doktor pun kalau nak rawat ade ke tanya name mak?? tak logik langsung! other clues to show that the 'healer' is actually a dukun:
- mintak rambut la, gambar la dan segala nonsense2 yg lain.
- he tells us your whole life story to your amazement at your first meeting. and you think, " masya Allah, he must be a godly man since he knows all things about me. it must be from a divine source!" NOOOO!!!! you have been fooled. as most of you know, all of us have a qareen which is a jinn that has been appointed by iblis to each one of us the moment we are born. the qareen is with us 24/7 to whisper evil things to us. note that our qareen doesn't harm us. just whisper kejahatan into our hearts. BUT, out qareen shares our life stories with the dukun's Jinn and that jinn tells it to the dukun, and the dukun tells it to you as if he is receiving revelation from the 7th heaven. sneaky much?! yes, indeed. so beware!
- the provision of talismans (tak ingat what they call it in malay... tiamat ke??). and this is another sneaky bit of their work. often they put the words Allah, Muhammad and some verses around the border of a paper, but the middle is filled with numbers and symbols. Kite yang tgk pun terfikir, " ni mesti betul ni, ade name Allah and Muhammad tu. and ayat Quran pun ade." SALAH!! it is not betul! the numbers and symbols are ways of communicating with the Jinns. tak kisah la ade the whole Quran tertulis skali pun, tapi kalau ade numbers and symbols and petak2, tinggalkanlahh!!
it is for this reason also, we should avoid playing games like spirit of the coin and ouija board. you are communicating with the jinn. not the ruh of the dead, but the jinn. as i said, they love attention, they'll be more than happy to respond to your calls and scare you by unnatural happenings around you. there are cases of people downloading necromancy from the internet and saje2 try to follow the instructions. this is HARAM!! it really will invite jinns into your home.
the real proper healers will use Quranic recitation and read it over water, or olive oil and tell you to use it. this is acceptable. as we know, in the Quran Allah describes water as something which can purify the heart:
"(Remember) when He covered you with a slumber as a security from Him, and He caused water (rain) to descend on you from the sky, to clean you thereby and to remove from you the Rijz (whispering, evil-suggestions) of Shaitân (Satan), and to strengthen your hearts, and make your feet firm thereby" al-anfaal verse 11.
Olive oil too is a blessed oil as is mentioned is surah an-nur in the verse of the light.
so, how to protect ourselves from Jinn. first we should know in our hearts that whatever harm comes to us is by the permission of Allah. the Jinn are not more powerful than Allah, so tawakkul is important. jaga solat lima waktu penting ye rakan2. sangat penting. it's so important that it is the only commandment to be revealed di atas langit ke tujuh pada malam mi'raj, dan bukannye di bumi seperti perintah Allah yang lain. bacelah Quran tiap2 hari walaupun seketika. sebelum tidur, bacelah ayatul kursiyy (this is recommended by syaiton himself in the hadith of the thief and Abu hurairah). basically jagalah hubungan dgn Allah and He will protect you. another hadith states that rumah yg di dalamnye dibaca al-baqarah, syaitan tak masuk. so kalau kite takde mase nak bace al-baqarah, at least pasangla casette ke, radio ke dan sewaktu dgnnye. toksa la dok dengar bollywook saje 24/7. *_*
having said that, it is worth mentioning that all our efforts to be close to Allah will help decrease the chances of being affected by sihir but it doesn't make us immune. hatta Rasulullah SAW pun terkene tempias sihir and that's why diturunkan surah2 an-falaq and surah an-nas. He would always read them every night before sleeping. those 2 surah's are very comprehensive. bacelah seelok-eloknye sekali sehari and hayatilah maknanye. insya Allah di jauhkan dari kejahatan sihir.
may Allah protect us all. and may you benefit from this note insya Allah.
